The different floor tile types include Ceramic Tiles, Porcelain, granite, laminate, mosaic, etc. Nowadays, rubber blocks are also used for installation of flooring. Let us have a look at different patterns being used.

Tile Patterns
The following tile patterns are commonly used for the installation of flooring.

    * Brick Pattern: In this pattern the blocks are placed in a traditional brick style. Floor Tiles in the second row are not placed directly below the upper blocks with their edges confirming to a straight line. Their position is such that the midpoint overlaps with the point where two adjacent blocks from the upper row join.
    * Hexagonal Pattern: In this pattern, rows of blocks with a hexagonal shape are laid one above the other.
    * Herringbone Pattern: The herringbone pattern is a bit tricky to understand. The herringbone pattern looks like a 'V'-shaped repetition. Blocks are diagonally laid in the following pattern: a rectangular block is laid horizontally, and below this block, another block is laid vertically. Thus, an alternate pattern of vertical and horizontal blocks is laid, which resembles a pattern of steps/stairs.
    * Checkerboard: In this tile pattern, black and white tiles are laid alternately. It is one of the commonly used floor tile patterns.
    * Diamond Pattern: The diamond pattern is nothing but square-shaped tiles placed in manner that instead of edges, their vertices are adjacently placed from side to side.
    * Octagon and Dot Pattern: In this pattern, octagonal tiles are laid adjacent to each other. The space created between edges of the 4 adjacent octagonal tiles is filled with a 'dot' or a small square shaped tile.
    * Basket Weave Pattern: In this pattern, pair of tiles are laid in a vertical and horizontal manner alternately in a row. This tile pattern is similar to herringbone however, is easy to install. There is minimum wastage of tile in this pattern.
